South Western Railway passengers face a disrupted Sunday as engineering work closes lines in three areas, forcing diversions, shortened routes and replacement buses across parts of south-west London, Surrey and Hampshire.
Services from London Waterloo towards Reading, Windsor, Woking, Alton and the south coast will all be affected on Sunday, September 27, with several trains diverted or cut short and buses standing in on a number of routes.
The closures centre on the Staines, Eastleigh and Aldershot areas, where lines will be shut all day while the work takes place.
Staines area closures hit Reading, Windsor and Woking routes
Lines around Staines will be closed throughout Sunday, with the biggest impact falling on services running west and south-west out of London Waterloo.
Waterloo to Reading trains will be revised and diverted between Clapham Junction and Virginia Water, calling additionally at Wimbledon, Surbiton, Weybridge, Addlestone and Chertsey.
Waterloo to Windsor services will be diverted after Twickenham and terminate at Hounslow, while Waterloo to Woking trains via Staines will also terminate at Hounslow. Additional trains will run between Waterloo and Hounslow via Twickenham, and afternoon and evening Waterloo to Kingston services via Hounslow will run throughout the day, terminating at Hounslow.
Replacement buses will run between Hounslow and Virginia Water via Staines, between Hounslow and Windsor via Staines, and between Hounslow and Woking via Staines.
Eastleigh works disrupt south coast services
Lines in the Eastleigh area will also be closed all day, hitting long-distance services towards the south coast.
Waterloo to Weymouth trains will leave London Waterloo earlier than usual and will be diverted between Woking and Southampton Central, calling additionally at Guildford, Havant and Fareham. Waterloo to Poole services will start from Southampton Central instead, with extra trains running between Waterloo and Winchester.
Replacement buses will run between Winchester, Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central, as well as between Winchester, Shawford, Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central.
Waterloo to Portsmouth trains via Eastleigh will run throughout the day but terminate at Winchester, calling additionally at Farnborough. Replacement buses will run between Winchester and Fareham via Eastleigh, with a revised service operating between Fareham and Portsmouth. Salisbury to Romsey trains via Southampton Central will terminate at Southampton Central, with buses running between Southampton Central and Romsey via Eastleigh. CrossCountry services will also be affected.
Aldershot line closed with buses replacing trains
The lines around Aldershot will be shut all day, leaving some routes with no trains at all.
Waterloo to Alton services will not run. Passengers travelling from London Waterloo are advised to use Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services as far as Farnborough, where replacement buses will run to Alton via Aldershot, calling at Bentley village.
Ascot to Guildford services via Aldershot will also not run, with replacement buses operating between Ascot and Guildford via Aldershot.
Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling and to allow extra time where replacement buses are in operation. It is not the only disruption on the railways this weekend: London Overground passengers face major weekend disruption, while Lewisham station is shutting all weekend as Southeastern works bring major disruption.
